Siti Nurbaya

Pulau Pandan jauh di tengah

di balik pulau Angsa Dua

Hancur badanku di kandung tanah

cahaya matamu kuingat jua

.

Jika ada sumur di ladang

tentu boleh menumpang mandi

Jika ada umurku panjang

tentu boleh bertemu lagi

.

Bulan terang bulan purnama

nagasari disangka daun

Jangan dikata bercerai lama

bercerai sehari rasa setahun

.

Pulau Pinang kersik berderai

tempat burung bersangkar dua

Jangan bimbang kasih'kan cerai

jika untung bertemu jua

.

Ke rimba ke padang jangan

bunga cempaka kembang biru

Tercinta terbimbang jangan

adat muda menanggung rindu

.

Ke rimba orang Kinanti

bersuluh api batang pisang

Jika tercinta tahankan hati

kirimkan rindu di burung terbang

.

Ribu-ribu di pinggir jalan

tanam di ladang kunyit temu

Jika rindu pandanglah bulan

di situ cinta dapat bertemu

.

Berbunyi gendang di Pauh

orang menari di halaman

Sungguh Kakanda berjalan jauh

hilang di mata di hati jangan

.

Terbang melayang kunang kunang

Mati saekor terkena api

Jika siang terbayang-bayang

jika malam menjadi mimpi

.

Putih berkembang bunga kecubung

mati tiram di tepi pantai

Maksud hendak memeluk gunung

apa daya tangan tak sampai

.

Sukar membilang buah kelapa

burung pipit terbang sekawan

Biar hilang tidak mengapa

asal bersama dengan Tuan

.

Che Mek Wan Kembang

Rambutnya hitam ikal mayang,

panjang berjurai.

Parasnya elok bak bulan purnama.

Kulitnya halus bak sutera.

Pipinya licin bak pauh dilayang,

kemerah-merahan warnanya kerana terkena panas matahari.

Pabila tersenyum, berlesung pipit kedua pipinya

menambahkan manis rupanya;

istimewa pula kerna bertahi lalat dipipi kirinya.

Pandangan matanya tenang dan lembut memikat hati mengoda jiwa.

Hidungnya mancung bak seludang.

Bibirnya merah bak delima merekah.

Mulutnya bak seulas limau dan di antara kedua bibir itu

kelihatan giginya, rapat berjejer putih bak mutiara.

Dagunya bak lebah bergantung dan lehernya jenjang.

Pinggannya ramping dan dadanya bidang, senang mata memandang.

Suaranya lembut bak buluh perindu, memberi pilu yang mendengar.

hidden music

I wonder
from these thousand of "me's",
which one am I?
Listen to my cry, do not drown my voice
I am completely filled with the thought of you.
Don't lay broken glass on my path
I will crush it into dust.
I am nothing, just a mirror in the palm of your hand,
reflecting your kindness, your sadness, your anger.
If you were a blade of grass or a tiny flower
I will pitch my tent in your shadow.
Only your presence revives my withered heart.
You are the candle that lights the whole world
and I am an empty vessel for your light.

inspired by Rumi (from Maryam Mafi & Azima Melita Kolin)

festival of love

Come,
let's scatter roses and

pour wine in the glass;
we'll shatter heaven's roof

and lay a new foundation.
If sorrow raises armies

to shed the blood of lovers,
I'll join with the wine bearer

so we can overthrow them.
With a sweet string at hand,

play a sweet song, my friend,
so we can clap and sing a song

and lose our heads in dancing.

inspired by Hafiz ( from Carl.W Ernst)

festival of love

We are the guardians of Beauty,
We are the protectors of the Light.

There is only one reason have we
followed Him into this world:
To bring laughter, freedom, dance
and love.

Let a noble cry inside of you speak to me
saying, "Don't just sit there on the moon

tonight doing nothing,

help unfurl my heart into your mind

and heal my wounded wings"

We are the companions of Beauty
We are the guardians of Truth.

Every things in existence, is
a harbinger of joy, the harbinger of Light.

inspired by Hafiz ( from Daniel Ladinsky)

the puzzle

Someone who keeps aloof from suffering is not a lover.
I choose your love above all else.

As for wealth if that comes, or goes, so be it.
Wealth and love, they inhabit separate worlds.

But as long as you live here inside me,
I cannot say that I am suffering.

inspired by Sanai (from Coleman Barks)

festival of love

Go sweep out the chamber of your heart.
Make it ready to be the dwelling place of the Beloved.
When you depart out, He will enter it.
In you, void of yourself, will He display His beauties.
inspired by Mahmud Shabistari

festival of love

I am her whom I love,
and she whom I love is me:
We are two spirits
dwelling in one body.
If you see me,
you see her,
And if you see her,
you see us both.

Elegi 4 NFAK

Tumhein dillagi bhool jani pare gi
Muhabbat ki raahon mein aa kar to dekho
Tarapne pe mere na phir tum hanso ge
Kabhi dil kissi se laga kar to dekho

Honton ke paas aye hansi, kya majaal hai
Dil ka muamla hai koi dillagi nahin

Zakhm pe zakhm kha ke ji Apne lahoo ke ghont pi
Aah na kar labon ko si Ishq hai dillagi nahin

Dil laga kar pata chaley ga tumhein
Aashiqui dillagi nahin hoti

Kuch khel nahin hai ishq ki laag
Paani na samajh ye aag hai aag

Khoon rulaye gi ye lagi dil ki
Khel samjho na dillagi dil ki

Yeh ishq nahin aasaan Bas itna samajh leejay
Ik aag ka darya hai Aur doob ke jaana hai

free your worries

release your heart from all your worries,

and be like the mirror that hold no images.

if you desire a clear mirror, behold yourself

and see the truth, which the mirror reflects.

if metal can be polished to a mirror finish,

what polishing might your heart require?

between the mirror and the heart is this

single difference:

heart conceals secrets and mirror does not.

Mantera

hi siputri satulung besar
yang beralun berilir simayang
mari, kemari
aku menyanggul rambutmu
aku membawa sadap gading
akan membasuh mukamu

khazana atuk moyang

Nazam

berdiri di tepian pantai

aku terpesona dek keindahan samudera
tiupan bayu
serta lambaian pohon pohon nyuir

namun tatkala menatap wajah mu wanita
aku tergoda oleh senyumannya

yang menyalakan rindu

sukar hendak menyelami perasaan dan hati wanita

sama seperti sulitnya memahami bahasa ombak

tetapi terima kasih wanita, kerana ketiadaan mu

mampu menukarkan dunia menjadi sebuah padang sepi

yang kosong dan bisu

kerana tanpa mu, tiada aku

Baggage

Two monks were traveling together when they reached a river with a damaged bridge. As they were wading across the river they saw a pretty lady stuck at the damaged bridge and couldn't cross the river.

The first monk offered to carry her across the river on his back and the lady accepted. The second monk was shocked by the move of the first monk. 'How can he carry a lady when we are supposed to avoid all intimacy with females?' thought the second monk but he kept quiet. While the first monk carried the lady across the river the second monk followed unhappily.

When they crossed the river, the first monk let the pretty lady down and they parted ways with her.

All along the way the second monk was very unhappy with the act of the first monk. He was making up all kinds of accusations about the first monk in his head. This got him madder and madder. But he still kept quiet.

Finally, many hours later, the second monk could not stand it any further and burst out angrily at the first monk. 'How can you claim yourself a devout monk, when you seize the first opportunity to touch a female, especially when she is very pretty? All this make you a big hypocrite.

The first monk was very surprised and said, 'I had put down the pretty lady at the river bank many hours ago, how come you are still carrying her along?'

Rumi Quotes Loves

Love is our Mother and
The way of our Prophet.
Yet it is in our nature
To fight with Love.
We can’t see you, mother,
Hidden behind dark veils
Woven by ourselves.

Do you want to enter paradise?
To walk the path of Truth
You need the grace of God.
We all face death in the end.
But on the way, be careful
Never to hurt a human heart!

This Love is a King
But his banner is hidden.
The Koran speaks the Truth
But its miracle is concealed.
Love has pierced with its arrow
The heart of every lover.
Blood flows but the wound is invisible.

Translated by Maryam Mafi and Azima Melita Koln

Rumi 101

Your task is not to seek for love, but to seek the barriers that you have built against it

Only from the heart can you touch the sky

Let the beauty of what you love be what you do

Don't grieve. Anything you lose comes round in another form

Observe the wonders as they occur around you
Every tree and plant in the meadow seemed to be dancing,
those which average eyes would see as fixed and still

Job

remember job...
for at the end...what really matter most is...
what is spoken by thee and what is always hidden in thy heart...

and when all these madness end...there are only...LOVE...TRUTH...PURITY...

my hope...when it end for me...I am still seeking...
thus "mencari yang tiada"...searching for what is not there

Bring me 2 yr leader…u idiot

Am doing this list under great protest…as the alien keep on saying…

bring me the list or your leader…well since…I don’t know who is…

my leader…I write them this list…

1. Yesterday…I can only think of the future…

2. Today…I can only think of yesterday…

3. Only thing I do remember well is… I am forgetful…

4. Only thing I know well is…I don’t know much…

5. Keep repeating making same mistake…over and over again…

6. Keep on regretting of my regrets…

7. I can’t listen well…I talk too much…

8. I can’t concentrate…I am easily distracted…

9. Is that a hole in the sky…

10. Anyway…don’t know… which is more…irritating…that I am…

doing the list…or that you… are reading it…

Btw…like I say in item 7…I can’t listen well...what they say is…

bring me the list of yr leader…and… I’m surprised that you are still reading…

In da mood...for Kahlil G

All these things have you said of beauty.
Yet in truth you spoke not of her but of needs unsatisfied,
and beauty is not a need but an ecstasy.
It is not a mouth thirsting nor an empty hand stretched forth,
but rather a heart enflamed and a soul enchanted.
It is not the image you would see nor the song you would hear,
but rather an image you see though you close your eyes and
a song you hear though you shut your ears.
Of a garden for ever in bloom and of angels for ever in flight.
Beauty is life when life unveils her holy face.
And you are life and the veil.
Beauty is eternity gazing at itself in a mirror.
And you are eternity and the mirror.

Kahlil G...at a glance

In one drop of water are found all the secrets of all the oceans
A root is a flower that disdains fame
Words are timeless. Utter or write them with knowledge of their timelessness
The Real me is mute, it is the acquired that is talkative
Let the earth take that which is hers; for I, man, have no end
A little knowledge that acts is worth infinitely more than much knowledge that is idle
Poverty is a veil that obscures the face of greatness

Chuang Tzu

We cling to our opinions, as though everything depended on it.

Yet its have no permanence; like seasons, they slowly fade away.

Those who realize their folly are not true fools.

Men honour what lies within the sphere of their knowledge,

not realizing how dependent they are on what lies beyond it.

Flow with whatever happening and let your mind free,

centred it by accepting whatever you are doing.

Happiness is the absence of the striving for happiness.

All things are really one.

We take the beautiful as valuable, and the ugly as foul.

The foul may turn valuable, and the valuable turn into foul.

I dreamed I was a butterfly flitting around happily; then I awoke

Now I wonder, am I a butterfly dreaming that I am a man or

am I a man who dreamt of being a butterfly?

Zhuangzi : See how the fishes play around where they please.

That's what fish really enjoy!

Huizi : You're not a fish, how do you know what fish enjoy?

Zhuangzi : You're not me, how you know I know what fish enjoy?

Huizi : I'm certainly not you, so I don't know what you know.

On the other hand, you're certainly not a fish

so that still proves you don't know what fish enjoy?

Zhuanji : Let's go back to your original question.

You asked me how I know what fish enjoy,

so you already knew I knew it when you asked the question.
